Coopers Beach Camp

Last week we went to camp. What we did at camp: went down the water slide, went to the beach and went fishing. It is was the funnest camp I have ever done. I enjoyed the water slide the most.

Maths

We have been learning to solve problems with multiplication and division. Here are some problems I solved this week.

handwriting

At the end of this term we did our handwriting sample.
We had to use our capital and lower case letters and write a sentence  about our science fair. What I like about my handwriting is I sat all my letters on the line. What I could do better is make it tidier.

Garden to Table

Today we have been making some coleslaw and kebab's.  The kebabs had marshmallow's and apples as well as pears. We also had fritters, which we made  with corn and eggs.  Instead of eating at the table, we ate our yummy kai on the field.  Everyone had lot's of kebab's. They were so delicious! 

science Fair

Yesterday we had our school science fair.My science investigation was about Lego bridges. We had to see how much weight the bridges could hold.

digital learning

On Tuesday the year 4's went to Waitangi to do digital learning using Scratch and unplugged activities.

My favourite activity was the Lego one because you had to find a buddy and get a pack of Lego. One person had to tell the other how to build their design by explaining where to put each of the blocks while the other person built it.  They had to check if they got it right.

I got one of the designs correct.

For maths we have been making magical boxes to help us solve problems. I have created a screencastify of an example of the problem.

Maths book

For this week we read a book called 1 is a snail and 10 is a crab. We then worked in groups to create our own version. My book is called 1 is a fish 10 is a Caterpillar .

Moon Rover Lander

For science we made a Moon rover lander using only a paper cup, paper, sellotape and straws.  We were given the task of making our Moon rover land softly onto our Moon landscape so that our marshmallow astronauts did not fly out.

The materials I used for my Moon rover is straws, paper cup and cellotape.

What I like best about my Moon rover is the landing, it was perfect. The marshmallows stayed in the cup when it landed.

What I needed to modify on my Moon lander rover was fixing my cup and my straws. My straws were covered in cellotape and my cup was stuck.

One thing I learned about landing on the Moon was that landing on the moon is important for other people.

Coding with Scratch

Today we have used Scratch Jr to make a maze.  I have made a video that I am going to show you how I coded my cat to get to the castle.

STEAM activities blog

I have been making things about insects. I made an iMovie about bugs. I took pictures of insects and I have also made a scratch jnr coding about an insect. I write a poem about what ants eat. I did writing  of facts about insects.

We made a bug hotel out of bark and dirt, leaves, soil, hay and DVD tapes.

We have been using bricks and a pallet to make a bug hotel.

We have been making a bug hotel so all the good creatures can live better.

Today we wrote fun poems about living things. We had to use an adjective, noun and verb in every sentence. Here is my published poem.

For maths we have been working in mixed ability groups to solve problems. The focus has been solving word problems using place value. We have to select the correct the correct strategy to solve the problem. I have chosen two problems to show you how I work them out.

For writing this week we wrote colour poems. I had to make a yellow poem
for our house group. Here it is.

Environmental writing

We sketched our bean plants that we grew in class. We then wrote words around the outside to describe the bean plant. We had to use these words to write a piece of descriptive writing. We then cut out our picture and glued it on to your writing. Here is my writing.

We have been learning how to sketch our facial features.
We needed to put them in the right place on our face.
For our background we typed our full name and leaned to copy
and paste down the page.
